Hyatt House Scottsdale/Old Town
I recently returned from a weekend getaway to Scottsdale, Arizona with my husband. Our 3 year old, stayed home with “Mom Mom” (Grandmas are the best!) This was a fairly last minute trip planned to get out of dreary, cold Ohio in February. I’ve always wanted to check out Arizona so this seemed like a perfect opportunity. We stayed at the Hyatt House Scottsdale/Old Town.
It’s no secret that I am a sucker for a fancy hotel. I’m a happy girl at a swanky resort with a heated pool, great views and full spa.
However for this trip, we had a lot planned and really weren’t expecting to spend too much time at the hotel. So, I didn’t want to blow a lot of points on a fancy resort when we really wouldn’t make use of it. I had also read about Old Town Scottsdale and wanted something within walking distance. After looking at the options I chose the Hyatt House Scottsdale/Old Town. Since you can stay here using World of Hyatt points it’s a great option if you’re visiting Scottsdale on a budget.
I booked 3 nights for 8,000 points per night. Cash rates were $213 per night which gave me a solid 2.6 cents per point value. The price included a full breakfast buffet too! (I don’t like buffets, but I like free so it’s all good). I transferred points from Chase Ultimate Rewards to Hyatt to make the booking.
Hyatt House is located within a 10 minute walk of Old Town Scottsdale which gives you access to tons of restaurants, bars, shops and galleries!
Amenities at Hyatt House Scottsdale
Overall, I was happy with my choice. The Hyatt House isn’t fancy, but it was clean and comfortable. Check in was quick and pleasant, and I was offered free beverages (including beer) due to my Platinum status (don’t be too impressed – Platinum status is the lowest tier Hyatt status – it’s fairly worthless most of the time). Breakfast is included for all rooms. The breakfast buffet included a made to order omelet station (hint – do this instead of getting the eggs on the buffet), a selection of eggs, bacon, pancakes, bagels, english muffins, oatmeal, yogurt, granola and fruit.
There was a decent sized pool and hot tub outside. There were also tables and chairs available around the courtyard style outside area. A fire pit was lit every night and grills were available for use too.
Unfortunately for us, our next door neighbors were a group of forty-something guys trying to re-live their glory days. I gathered that they were in town for a golf and party weekend. The strangest thing was that they had their door open ALL THE TIME. Every time we left our room their door was open and one of them was on the couch chilling like it was college or something. WTF?
Great For Families
This is a great option for families with kids as every room is a suite complete with kitchen! When you have little ones that go to bed early it can be a life saver to be able to shut the door and enjoy the rest of the evening with the lights on. There was also a huge closet that is big enough to put a pack and play in (Although it was open to the sink area so the light situation might be an issue.) Since breakfast is included, you can fuel up the whole family in the morning without spending an extra cent. However you look at it, 8,000 Hyatt points a night for a suite is hard to beat!
Other Scottsdale Hotels and Resorts
If the Hyatt House isn’t your style, there are lots of other places to choose from. If you are looking for luxury check out the following:
- Andaz Scottsdale Resort & Spa: $309, 20,000 Hyatt points or 10,000 Hyatt points + $125 per night
- JW Marriott Scottsdale Camelback Inn Resort & Spa: $427 + $29 resort fee per night or 40,000 Marriott Rewards points (not available until May!)
-
The Phoenician, a Luxury Collection Resort, Scottsdale: $531, 25,000 Starpoints or 10,000 Starpoints + $180 per night
For other hotels within walking distance of Old Town Scottsdale check out:
- Scottsdale Marriott Suites Old Town: $408 or 35,000 Marriott Rewards Points per night
- Hyatt Place Scottsdale/Old Town: $186 or 8,000 Hyatt points per night. This place is literally across the street from the Hyatt House where we stayed and seemed comparable. Cash rates are a little lower here even though points are the same. I really only chose the Hyatt House because they had a hot tub!
- Hilton Garden Inn Scottsdale Old Town: $209 or 30,000 Hilton Honors Points per night
Stay tuned to the blog for more from my weekend in Scottsdale! Happy Travels.
