I always thought cat cafes were something you could only find in a hipster Tokyo neighborhood. I never thought I would get to experience one in the midwest. Thankfully I was wrong — there’s a cat cafe in Columbus, Ohio. Kitty Bubble Cafe & Bar opened in the fall of 2022 and is 1 of 5 cat cafes in the state of Ohio.

A Cat Cafe in Columbus, Ohio

My husband and I took our daughter to Kitty Bubble Cafe & Bar for her birthday. We visited another cat cafe in Columbus years ago (it’s no longer open) and were excited to visit a new one since we are definitely “cat people” (we have 3 at home).

We reserved our spots online which was a good idea since our time slot eventually sold out (reservations are recommended but aren’t required).

After we checked in, we ordered some fun bubble teas from the cat-themed menu. With names like Pink Toe Bean, Catnip, and Purrty Rose, you couldn’t help but be in a good mood when ordering. There were also coffee drinks and some snacks available.

The pink and turquoise color scheme fits in purr-fectly (see what I did there) with the playful cat-themed decor. Even the chairs were on point.

There’s plenty of seating in the cafe area with views of the cat lounge through small bubble-like windows.

There’s also a bar area with stools near a large window that overlooks the cat lounge. This is a good option if you don’t want to pay to go into the cat lounge but would still like to see the cats.

Once it was our assigned time, we were led into the cat lounge area. It’s an open room with plenty of cat scratchers, cat toys, and cat sleeping areas. There were maybe a dozen or so cats in the room during our visit. The only problem is that there were about 15 people in the room too which made it feel pretty crowded and made it hard to have one-on-one time with the cats.

Petting the cats is encouraged but you’re not allowed to pick them up.

The cats have access to a private area at all times and they are free to move back and forth between the cat lounge and the private area whenever they chose. Most of the cats at Kitty Bubble Cafe are up for adoption through Colony Cats so this is a great place to visit if you’d like to adopt a kitty.

• Monday: Noon to 9 p.m.
• Tuesday: CLOSED
• Wednesday: CLOSED
• Thursday: Noon to 9 p.m.
• Friday: Noon to 9 p.m.
• Saturday: 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
• Sunday: 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

While the cafe is open until 9 p.m. the cat lounge closes at 8 p.m.

• 30-minute cat lounge visit: $10
• All-day weekday pass (up to 8 hours): $40

Adoption Information:

Most of the cats living at Kitty Bubble Cafe are adoptable. This is a great way to spend some time with multiple cats if you’re looking to adopt. Kitty Bubble Cafe works with Colony Cats, a local rescue organization for all adoptions.

Did You Know? Columbus had another cat cafe, Eat Purr Love, that unfortunately closed in 2020.
