If you are like me, when you think of Las Vegas, gambling and drinking come to mind. Walking the Las Vegas Strip and taking in all of Sin City is definitely a USA bucket list item, but there are other things to try that aren’t necessarily at the top of your mind when you think of Vegas.
Whether it’s your first time in Las Vegas or you are a Vegas pro, these non Vegas-y things to do will be sure delight.

1. The High Roller
The High Roller is the world’s tallest observation wheel! This 550 foot tall wheel is located in The LINQ’s outdoor promenade. The High Roller has 28 glass enclosed cabins that hold up to 40 people each. It takes 30 minutes to complete one full revolution and offers fantastic views of the Strip and beyond. - Yoga on The High Roller – I’m guessing most people don’t go to Las Vegas for yoga…well, I do! During my last trip I tried out Yoga with the Dolphins at The Mirage. 2. Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area
Get away from the hustle and bustle for a while to do some hiking in Red Rock Canyon. This National Conservation Area is located 17 miles west of the Strip. Here you will find miles of hiking trails as well as rock climbing, horseback riding and mountain biking.
- Wild West Horseback Adventures offers 3 different guided tours starting at $129 per person.
- Try a guided hiking tour with Escape Adventures. A guided half day tour including transportation and water is $119.99 per person.
- If you want something a little more relaxed, try the Red Rock Canyon Day Tour from Las Vegas. Choose a 4 or 6 hour tour that takes you on a scenic drive through Red Rock Canyon. Prices start at $79.89 per person and includes hotel pick up and drop off.
3. Hoover Dam and Lake Mead Dinner Cruise
Try dinner on the Desert Princess, a Mississippi style paddle wheeler. You will experience great views of the Lake Mead National Recreation Area, Hoover Dam and the Mike O’Callaghan-Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge. Cruises are $125 per person and are available Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday.
Your 2 hour dinner cruise includes transportation to and from your hotel, a gourmet dinner and glass of champagne, bottled water on bus and photo stops at the “Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas” sign and Hoover Dam.
4. Grand Canyon Bus Tour
Take a 1 day bus tour to the Grand Canyon, one of the seven Natural Wonders of the World. You will see sights like the Hoover Dam, the West Rim, Guano Point and the Colorado River.
5. The Neon Museum
The Neon Museum Boneyard is an area just shy of 2 acres and includes an outdoor exhibition space with over 200 signs, a visitor center and an additional gallery that is used for weddings and special events. There are 9 restored signs that can be viewed on a self guided tour, but to see the majority of the collection, you will need to book a guided one hour tour.
The museum offers both day and night tours daily. Tickets are $15-$25 per person and and advance reservations are suggested.
