I spent a day at Tabacon Hot Springs in Costa Rica and it was simply amazing.  While this is a full-service resort, you can do what I did and do a day trip to the hot springs. Luxury Hot Springs In Costa Rica

While I was planning my trip to Costa Rica I was asking everyone for recommendations on what to do. I think everyone I asked said: Hot Springs!  So, to the hot springs I went.

We stayed at the Costa Rica Marriott Hotel Hacienda Belen near San Jose which offered a day trip that included Tabacon Hot Springs. However, we didn’t want to mess with the other parts of that tour so we set out to make our own day trip to the hot springs.

We hired a private driver to take us to Tabacon Hot Springs from our hotel and back again at the end of the day.  It was about a 3-hour drive from our hotel near San Jose and cost about $200. It sounds like a lot, but it was totally worth it.

The waters at Tabacon Thermal Resort are naturally heated by the underground magma from the Arenal volcano. Temperatures range from about 98 degrees Fahrenheit to 102 degrees Fahrenheit. The thermal pools are all connected by a series of waterfalls. It’s pure heaven.

The rooms at Tabacon look amazing, but we already had our hotel booked so we decided to do a day pass.  There are a few options for day passes that include meals too. We opted for the Day Spa Package.

The Spa At Tabacon Thermal Resort and Hot Springs

This was hands down the best spa experience I have ever had.  The only problem was that it didn’t last long enough.

Before your treatment, you can relax in the hot tub or open-air lounge area. The treatment you choose is performed in an open-air bungalow in the jungle…aka massage heaven! I chose a 60-minute Shirodhara massage and it was exquisite.  I would highly recommend this one. Unfortunately, photos are not allowed in the spa area so you are just going to have to take my word for it.

Booking Tabacon Thermal & Spa Resort Using Hyatt Points

There are a few items you will need to bring with you to the Costa Rica hot springs:

• Bathing Suit
• Waterproof Phone Case…to keep your phone nice and dry.
• Underwater Camera…for cool waterfall photos.
• Water Shoes…yes, you will look stupid but your feet will be happy on the rocky hot springs bottom.
• Credit Card With No Foreign Transaction Fees…for a frosty drink at the pool bar.
• Lightweight Rain Jacket…a good idea anytime in Costa Rica.

A Day Of Luxury at the Costa Rica Hot Springs

I enjoyed every minute of my day at Tabacon Hot Springs in Costa Rica. (I mean, what’s not to love?) No, it’s not cheap, but it is definitely worth it. It’s one of those experiences that you can’t have just anywhere.  If you are going to splurge on anything during your trip to Costa Rica, splurge on this.
